Work the Dream

Dare To Dream

A Thanks Filled, Thankful, Thanksgiving Day

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow shall keep me…..wait ..wait..that is the postman.  Neither money woes, torn up vans or tiredness shall keep us from enjoying our special FIRST Thanksgiving Day in our new home. The roaster is ready for that plump turkey and the other goodies are sitting on the counter or in the fridge ready to create delicious dishes and the smell of tangerines is filling the air already.

And so, we are off and running today. Right now we are enjoying coffee and sweet rolls. That is sort of our tradition on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Of course, we plan on watching the parade later. What is Thanksgiving without a parade? And the Christmas lights are on and the music playing and our hearts are filled with Thanks for all that the Creator has done for us.

Soon, we will get busy for there is pumpkin pie to make, and stuffing and green bean casserole (son’s favorite) and for me a baked sweet potato and of course the plump turkey already seasoned and sitting in the fridge ready to go into the cooker. Son got a big turkey as he loves left over turkey and dressing.  We love to try different stuffings each year. I think son wants to make a sausage stuffing this year. And I am so excited as I get to make the pumpkin pie this year from scratch. Son is going to help me.

Around here, there is a community Thanksgiving Dinner going on today at the Community Center. When we lived on the other side of the mountain, we used to go to the community Thanksgiving Dinner there and it was very nice. The food was great. People brought their families and there was entertainment and fabulous door prizes.

Friday night is the Parade of Lights. Son plans on taking me so that I can see it. It is their version of what used to be the Christmas parade when I was a kid. Floats of all kinds will be in the parade and the lights are beautiful I am told. Plus the stores stay open later so that people can go in them after the parade. I am very excited as this is our first here in Walsenburg and so will be so much fun to see. Hopefully son can park where I can watch from the van. If not, he said he could carry a seat for me.

I will have to be sure and take a picture of Jack as he lays watching the glass window on the stove today like he thinks it is a tv. We can go in the other room and he will lay there guarding the food cooking. He is so funny.

So, I hope you all are up and enjoying your thanks-filled day of Thanksgiving and remember all the reasons to be thankful. Yesterday was not such a good day for us with the van breaking down and all but in spite of that….we are thankful it happened now and not when we were headed to the Heart Center next week. And we are thankful we made it home and the van is here where we can see about getting it fixed. And we are thankful for our Highway Angels who helped us out yesterday.  And that is in addition to being thankful for our new home in our new town and the great medical doctors I have now and for each other and loved ones and angels who help us along the way.

And I am especially thankful how easy our new home is for me and for the day bed in the living room that I can lay on and can watch the parade and see son cooking things in the kitchen and we can talk. This house is so wonderful in that I am not down this long hallway, off by myself and never could be part of anything. I am right at the kitchen, and the livingroom and dining room are but a few steps away.

And so now, time to finish our coffee and sweet rolls and morning rituals and then get ready to cook. Oh the house will be smelling so delicious. Will be posting pictures soon. :)

  1. I can almost smell that sweet roll here in Florida! Suitcases packed and sitting here watching the parade until time to go eat turkey with the family before we depart for our cruise and then I can check the Panama Canal off my bucket list! So much to be thankful for this year including good friends like YOU! Enjoy these holiday times and have a peaceful recuperation in the coming weeks. I will miss you!
