Our Day At The Drive By Shooting
Today son and I were at a drive by shooting….of flu shots that is. Our city/county has this wonderful set up where you drive through the stations and get your flu shot without even leaving your vehicle. I love it because it is so easy for me. The line was long but moved pretty quickly.
When you first arrive, there is a bus saying “free breakfast” inside so that those having the shot can go in and eat too. We did not do in and eat but opted to just ride through and get the shot.
As we pulled up, there was a long line waiting. As the line moved closer, we started seeing the tables set up and the men and women in bright colored vests directing us where to go.
The workers had clipboards that they took to each vehicle and each person had to fill out the papers telling name, address, any allergies, etc.
I actually felt bad for them because it was about 38 degrees out there.
They would direct us from one station to the next. The first three were the same thing just to keep the lines moving.
And then came the tent set up for the shots. As you see they were doing three vehicles at once to speed the process up.
And then came OUCHIE time. The ones giving the shots were really good and I did not even feel it.
They also gave son a card to take to the COG office to prove as a caretaker that he had taken the flu shot. And then came the last stop. They made you sit for ten minutes to make sure you did not react to the meds. If you started feeling sick, instructions were to lay down on the horn hard and they would be there in a rush. They also gave home kits to check for colon cancer. They called them “pre-screening kits” for us to take home.
And that was our day at the drive by shooting. Took us less than thirty minutes and we were back home.

Last year I participated in one of these at a local hospital. They served choice of juice and cookies during the ten-minute wait. Great idea.
Wow. How interesting.
