A World Still In Bondage

Our country is relatively young in comparison to the other countries in the world but that is no excuse for what I am about to write about. We have watched through history as people, cultures after cultures were put in bondage, made slaves and lived a life of denial and one would think that by now, we would have realized that none of us has the right to do that to another. But, sadly, it seems we do not.

bond·age

/ˈbändij/
Noun
  1. The state of being a slave.
  2. A state of being greatly constrained by circumstances or obligations.

There is still bondage in other countries as far as making certain groups live like slaves and making them imprisoned to the government in charge. We see women who are treated like belongings and children and young children that are made sex slaves and all of this is horrific. My first thought is “who the H do people think they are to do this to another group of people??”  My next thoughts are ones of extreme sadness and sorrow that anyone feels this is alright and what can we do to stop it?

We have other kinds of bondage too. In this modern-day and time, our prejudicial beliefs are forcing people into a form of bondage. Prejudice is more than just saying I do not like this person or that person because they are this color or that color, this sex, this sexual orientation, disabled, chronically ill, mentally challenged, fat or skinny, pretty or ugly and the list goes on. And again my first reaction is “who the H do people think they are to force their prejudicial views on the world?  They might as well be slapping handcuffs and throwing people into pits with that kind of archaic view of people.

Hitler wanted the “perfect race”…blonde hair and blue eyes…even though he was not that and many people lost their lives because of this. Other people taught hate of race, sexual orientation, and other things and people lost their lives because of that. Who are these perfect people doing this? I want to see them. Because I have never seen a perfect person before.

We put classes of people into bondage every time we have such prejudicial views. We make their world less, harder, and more restrictive and somehow, the ones that do this feel they have the right to tell people how to live.  I mean, of course..all the mentally challenged should be in institutions, all the ugly people and fat or skinny people hidden from view, all the disabled and chronically ill kept inside, all the races kept in their own sections of the world…and this is so all these “perfect” people can live in peace. Where are you perfect people?  I want to see you. I have never seen a perfect person before and who gave you the license to put everyone else into bondage because of your prejudicial views?

We have a government that says there is separation of church and state and yet they want to tell people who can and can not have a marriage…which is really a religious thing. Is this some more of the perfect people in office who want to tell the rest of us imperfect beings how to live? This is 2013 and we should be beyond this and yet we are not. Every day, people everywhere are living in bondage because someone has prejudicial beliefs. Have they not learned yet that we are all equal?

all equal

I really believe that people are prejudiced because they fear what they do not understand. So, if you are one of those perfect people who thinks they have the right to tell others how to live…ask yourself this:  what if suddenly people start to not like you for the color of your hair, or the color of your eyes (Hitler killed those not blue-eyed and blonde headed) or for some other trait and you found yourself on the suppressed end. What will you do? What if some perfect people started telling you that you could not do this or that because you smiled too big or you carried too many books at once or you ran too fast? The reality is no one is perfect and we are all equal. So, if we fear what we do not understand…then is it not time to finally try to understand?

Seriously, when we have small children being molested every minute of every day, children abducted, people starving, homeless, jobless, etc…are there not more important things to use energy on? As for me, I am not perfect so I do not waste my time condemning those that are different.
