The Internal Dream Catcher
This blog was started because of dreams which led us over the mountain to this little town. I believe dreams keep us going and give us reasons to get up in the morning as we work towards those dreams. The name of this blog is “Work The Dream” because I believe that dreams have to be worked for…we have to do our part and not just sit back and wait on it to happen. During the past two years and because of the Native American part of me, I became intrigued with dream catchers and wondered why some of us hold on to our dreams and others do not. It dawned on me that perhaps the reason is some of us have a dream catcher inside us and some of us do not.
The traditional dream catcher was intended to protect the sleeping individual from negative dreams, while letting positive dreams through. The positive dreams would slip through the hole in the center of the dream catcher, and glide down the feathers to the sleeping person below. The negative dreams would get caught up in the web, and expire when the first rays of the sun struck them.

Going on the precept of the dream catcher and the idea that the dream catcher tangles up the bad dreams and they expire when the sun hits them, I began to wonder if our internal dream catcher was like that. We may dream of things and just like dreaming at night, we see a vision of our dream is but when morning comes and the body and mind awaken, those dreams that are not good for us have been caught in the internal dream catcher and are expired when we open our eyes. And what is left is the dreams that we truly want.
Many people think once you reach a certain age or only if you are healthy can you have dreams but that is not so. I have dreams that brought us over the mountain and I still have dreams of things I want to accomplish. Will I accomplish all of them? Probably not in my lifetime but that does not mean I should quit dreaming. I do not think anyone is too old to dream and even when the dreams do not happen, part of the joy comes in dreaming about it. My dream is to return to Italy. Will I make it back there? Chances are slim but the joy I get in dreaming about it and seeing familiar places lights up my life.

We all need dreams of what we want out of life. Everyone has within them a lifetime of dreams but sometimes life and things that happen cause people to shut down the dreaming process. Can you imagine if everyone opened up this channel of dreaming and like lights on a long line of tiny Christmas lights, the world begins to glow with positive energy?
I think our internal dream catcher helps us weed out the bad dreams, the inappropriate dreams and helps us keep the positive dreams that may come true one day glowing within us. All we have to do is allow ourselves to dream and to be willing sometimes to step out and take a chance to have that dream come true.
