Work Your Dream

Taking A Short Sabbatical

my logo

Just to let you all know I am taking a short sabbatical due to health reasons. I am having severe spinal issues and leg issues and torn rotator cuff issues which have sidelined me.

I ask you please to not give up on me or unsubscribe as I will be back soon. It is just hard for me to think with this much pain. I have had injections into the shoulder joint to try to help and had OMT’s performed on me to try to help.

Sometimes life throws us curve balls and seems to stop us in our tracks but those that have followed me for very long know this about me:

My Poetry Book

my logo

You all will have to forgive me if I post the link to my Poetry book occasionally as when I post on here, it goes on all my media sites to help my book sell. One of the downsides of self-publishing.  It is amazing how some friends and family can disappoint you when it comes to buying your creation but they will. So, I am posting to the world 🙂 Thank you to those who have bought my book already. It means the world to me.

Here is the link:

I hope that if you take the time to buy a copy that you will leave a review for me.  Thanks so much.

The Last Dance

my logo

Another poem from my poetry book. My apologies that I have not been posting on the blog. We are in the middle of  selling things to raise money to get another vehicle after our van transmission went out, one that I can get into easier than my son’s jeep. So, my brain is tired. 🙂  Some of you asked me how you could help. Please just buy the poetry book because that way you will get something in return instead of just donating.

The book can be bought here:

With wisps of hair across her beautiful face

Tears on her cheeks your finger could trace

She stood there, head bowed in humble prayer

Feeling as if she were the only one to care

She closed her eyes and listened once more

To the music that always drew her to the door

The music suddenly rose in tempo and sound

She knew soon her time was coming around

Was her dream to dance just one last dance

And she knew tonight was her only chance

Rising on toes, she danced across the stage

Her body tensing up for the very next page

As she jumped high to twirl up in the air

She suddenly felt his hands holding there

He lifted her higher than she had ever flown

And twirled better than she had ever known

He molded himself to her as if they were one

Remaining there with her til the dance was done

The applause thundered around the room

And she felt as if life had just started to bloom

As the sounds died down, she smiled with tears

Not being able to dance was one of her fears

Then she opened her eyes and looked around

Oxygen hoses, hospital beds are what she found

As she glanced, she saw her toes pointed down

She knew only her attitude kept her bed bound

No matter what happened she could dance free

Closing her eyes, the stage she would see

I Know I Have Been MIA…So Sorry

my logo

I know I have been missing in action and I do apologize to all of you. First I was recuperating from surgery and it was taking a lot longer than I thought it would. And when you feel so bad, the brain just does not work to well. Fortunately I am over the surgery and feeling much better and can now work towards getting work done on the spine. And just to show you, here is a picture of me feeling so much better since the surgery. Amazing how much better I look with all the infection gone and healing taking place. This was taken a few days ago.

Second reason I have been MIA is I have been so exhausted, more than normal due to the van transmission dying on us and having to ride in son’s jeep.  To repair it is more than the value of the van. Our only mode of transportation now is the Jeep Wrangler.  And if you know anything about jeeps, you know it is not made for someone with my disabilities. But, I am resilient and I do manage to get into it. I only go out for doctors right now. We are working on selling things we no longer need and then my son is going to sell his jeep and get a vehicle easier for me to get into. But, that brings us back to the exhaustion point. When I have to go beyond my normal means to do things, it zaps me and I tend to crash and sleep to try to rebuild the strength. Another reason I have been MIA.

And the third reason is that my son here has helped me compile my poetry book that I have worked on for almost two years. Some of you have read my poetry so you know how I write. Well….*drum roll* ….the book is complete, we just got the proof copies for one last look and then it will be time to hit the publish button on Amazon so that the book goes on sale. I am so proud. I feel like I gave birth only it was less painful. *Giggling*.  And here are a few pictures to show you front and back and one to show how thick it is. It came out to be around 80 pages. I know poetry books do not become huge sellers but I will be happy if it just sells some. The author is shown as “simply danLrene” because that is the writing name I use but there is a picture of me sans the oxygen hose in the back with my name and a little write-up.

camera pics 266

camera pics 270

The font is a size 12 because I wanted people to be able to read with ease. The picture on the front is the view from my front door.  There are other pictures I have taken in the book too. And on the back is one of my quotes that I love so much. I could not have done this without my son here helping me put it together. My hope is that it sells enough to help camera pics 271with the vehicle fund.

So, as you can see, it has been a very complicated few weeks. But I am back ready to write again. I will post the link on Amazon once the book is published and ready to go on sale.

On The Wings Of An Eagle

my logo

I use many things to help me through the pain filled days. Visualization is one of those things. So, let me take you on one of my visualization times when the pain is making just breathing hard. Come fly with me for this is what I see when I close my eyes and all the pain vanishes for a brief period of time.

On The Wings Of An Eagle

Standing ready, she closes her eyes listening for the sound

She raises arms to the heavens as she edges forward til her toes curl round

The moon  beats down upon  her face and the glow warms her from within

She lets her eyes follow the mountains as they curve around the bend

She is barefoot in splendid wonder, her cotton gown clinging to her knees

The whiteness of the cotton gown slowly rippling like fog amongst the trees

Her hair flows like dark rivers over her shoulders in layers of earthy brown

There is no fear within her as she again raises her face listening for the sound

The moon,a glowing beacon, had risen from the treeline like a goddess in the sky

She had heard her softly say “come darling, follow me, it is once again time to fly

She found herself walking on legs long since withered and broken as she rose to obey

she felt no pain or weakness as the moons glow wound round her legs in soothing play

She grew excited with anticipation for she had heard the call many times before

Silently moving through the house until she finally reached the exit door

Her breathing was shallow and a smile upon her lips as she quietly eased outside

She stood looking to the moon nodding she was coming, as the door left open wide

Now, she stood with toes curled upon the ledge and her arms raised ready to fly

Not one drop of fear around, she waited only for that sound of the familiar cry

She hears them in the distance, the echo of eagle’s cries float into her ears

She raises up on tiptoes, with arms open wide and steps off the cliff with no fear

Falling downward she smiles for she knows the softness of the landing will be sweet

When her body sinks into the familiar softness and she feels the heart begin to beat

She nuzzles her face in closer and lays there in silent wonder cheek to cheek

The power of the beating wings fill her heart leaving her breathless and weak

Looking down she sees the meadow illuminated with the glow of the moon

The animals are scurrying around as if making a magical nature tune

She watches with delight perched high up in the sky as the world flies by

And in breathless wonder, her heart skips a beat as a tear falls from her eye

She closes her eyes for a moment, sighs in deep content with a smile upon her lips

Feeling the power of this body as they make turns and dips and flips

she realizes the gift she is given when she stands on the edge waiting for the sound

As she stands looking with arms raised to the sky, just waiting to be found

He gently sets her back upon the earth as his wing touches her face tenderly

And she sees the gentleness in his eyes that is only there for her heart to see

She feels him say as he looks at her that he will return again, to wait for the moon

The moon will let her know the time and she will return to the cliff very soon

Few can see with the eye of the eagle or soar across mountain tops touched by snow

She used to ask him why she was picked but he told her it was not for her to know

All she needed to know was to come when the moon told her it that it was time to fly

She could hear the echo of hooves, feel the warriors near as he lifted her to the sky

And as she lay on the softness of feathers and caressed his beautiful head in love

Some could only feel his beauty through the thickness of a leather glove

She knew it was a gift she was given to ride in splendid wonder in the sky so high

And feel the presence of heaven so close that the beauty made her heart cry

The Block

my logo

image from

The Block

He was just a child when she lost him

suddenly one day he was gone

she struggled to find answers

wondering what went wrong

she wanted to believe he was still here

like everyone kept saying was true

that the touch on her arm when she shed a tear

was really him saying please do not be blue

how was she to know for she could not see

was it just her eyes playing tricks today?

do little boys grow up out there?

somewhere in the galaxy far away?

Can he feel her heart full of care?

Is that him she hears when she is alone?

Does he know she wants to touch his face

Or just once call him on the phone?

she finds his colored pictures on the counter just so

She hears his favorite music from his bedroom door

just something that shows her how close he is

yet, she strains, she yearns for just a little more

one day she thought she saw him playing on the floor

with his blocks and cars scattered out

she thought it was a dream until she found the block

and her heart began to shout

He is here….he is here…I know it is true

for I saw him playing just so

sometimes it takes more than uttered words

for our hearts to really know

What Does Not Kill You Makes You Stronger

my logo

I love this video, not just for cancer patients but those chronically ill.  This person is making the choice to smile in the worst of circumstances. That is what I try to do.  I put a smile on my face and sing and dance my way through it all. 🙂 No, I am not pretending. I am choosing to be happy. There is a difference. Those pretending, it shows you are pretending.

video by Megan Kowalewski

I say this so often that it sounds like a mantra.  If your choices are not making you happy, then make different choices. Our happiness is up to us and we have to make the right choices and to make our own happiness no matter what is happening. We can not depend on others to do it for us.

So, dare to smile, dare to be a little silly, dare to laugh even when life seems so hard for it will lighten your whole being and help you fight the battle.  My battle cry is MOJO ON!!!   Ask son sometime for he will tell you that I put on my MOJO baseball cap and as he rolls me back to the pain clinic to have the nerves burnt in my spine or rolls me in for surgery, he will tell you I have attitude.  I think I might wear these for the upcoming surgery. I mean who can not smile with those on? And of course, everyone needs a leopard shawl to wear.Picture 047But maybe I will put on my black long johns. LOL

Picture 049

Choose to do things that make you laugh, make you smile, brings joy to your heart, and releases stress. No one said life would be easy but it is up to us in how we deal with what life offers. We can either be the victim always complaining or we can be the survivor, the warrior looking for solutions to things happening in our lives. I prefer being a survivor. I do not have the “give up” gene in me. I fight to the end. And look at yourself, see yourself as a survivor for that makes a big difference in how we fight life’s battles. This is a good example of how I see myself. As sick as I really am with all the things I have wrong, I still do not think of myself as sick or disabled. Maybe because my mind is not.

how you see yourself

Something about me that those closest to me know is that no matter how sick I am, I always find a way to dance. Our minds are amazing things and can take us places we want to go if we allow them. Below is a poem I wrote about me when I was at my worst and it shows you how I still time travel and still do things and still find joy in my life.

The Last Dance

Tears on her cheeks your finger could trace

Feeling as if she were the only one that cared

And she knew only her attitude kept her bed bound

No matter what happened she could dance so free

She just had to close her eyes and the stage she would see

The Day After Christmas

my logo

The Day After Christmas

It’s the day after Christmas and all through the house
Everyone is creaking and groaning, even the mouse
Tummies are still full, the stockings pulled down
But everyone is still smiling, no trace of a frown

Everyone is still buried deep in their beds
with piles of pillows covering their heads
The children are eating and making a mess
and adults are hiding from after Christmas stress

When suddenly the phone rings with such a clatter
as the phone hits the wall with a great a splatter
The in-laws are coming, quick hide all the trash
Mom and Dad run to the window in a flash

When what to their wondering eyes did appear?
A mini van with the in-laws and all of their gear
More rapid than eagles they flew to the door
dragging grandma and grandpa, they came all four

We saw the in-laws and the occupants from inside
And everyone in the house all began to run and hide
Voices rang through the door so lively and clear
We all stopped in our tracks trembling in fear

We are here for a week they exclaim through the door
And Aunt and uncle are coming and even some more
We knew in a moment this must be a mistake
We had told them all we were going to the lake

We peeked again to make sure who is outside
And we realized we have no reason to hide
Tis the neighbor’s in-laws and family and more
We told them they had come to the wrong door

And what to our horror should suddenly appear
A letter from their DIL saying to come over here
We sprang to our van, to the kids gave a whistle
threw open the garage door and flew like a thistle

We lowered the window and gunned the gas
And away we all flew like a lightning flash
But we yelled out the window as we drove away
Try the neighbors next door, we are not here today

Ride The River

my logo

Ride The River

The river of  life is not always kind and dear

Sometimes terrifying rides of rapids full of fear

Or eerie times the boat gently drifts going nowhere

Overwhelming the riders with absence of care

The silence can lay heavy like a very dense mist

Riding through dense fog with tight clenched fist

Other times of gentle moments with sun on face

Dredging up memories the mind tries to trace

Touches of hands as they silently drift away

Unable to endure the pain they see each day

Fairness was never the main part of the game

It rains on all at times; no one holds the blame

No matter the type of terrain or flow of the creek

Life is always more than all darkness and bleak

Enjoy the peaceful, beautiful, meandering ride

Then on rough times hold on tight to the side.

Ravenously devour every drop of the water of life

The flow of the river will float away all the strife

Listen to the songs that the siren always sings

She is urging you to arise and sprout your wings

Life is full of up hill, up hill, suddenly down I fall

One minute I am walking, the next I must crawl

So crawl if you must, keep moving the river along

The orchestra is playing and it is part of the song
